The Global Sustainability Standards Board of GRI has appointed 20 high profile mining industry enthusiasts as a multi-stakeholder working group to lead in developing a new GRI Sector Standard that addresses the impacts of organizations in the mining sector. The group will also identify how better reporting can lead to a more transparent and accountable mining sector.
Members of the group are from 10 countries, viz: United Kingdom, United States, South Africa, India, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Sweden and Ghana.
Ghana is represented by the CEO of Intelligence Nature International, Dr. William Bannerman and it is hoped that together with Claude Kabemba of South Africa, Africa’s interests, concerns and perspectives will be representatively articulated and captured in this new global mining standard.
The group was appointed by the Global Sustainability Standards Board following an open recruitment process. The Sector Standard for Mining will be developed during 2022-23, including a global public comment period.
