AMN contributes towards COVID-19 fight in Ghana

Accra Mining Network (AMN), an association of mining professionals has joined actively in the fight against the novel COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.

The network has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) package worth 4,000 Ghana cedis to the Simpa Health center in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.

The items consist of one infrared thermometer, 200 surgical masks, four boxes of gloves and seven litres of Nester hand sanitizers.

Presenting the items at a brief ceremony, AMN Chief Metallurgist, Mr Francis Donkor-Baah, explained that the goodwill formed part of their corporate social responsibility in this difficult times.

“Tarkwa which is basically the mining hub in Ghana have well equipped health facilities and the mining companies have their own clinics or hospitals, so we chose the Simpa Health Center because it is one of the closest to the mining location,” he said.

According to Mr Francis Donkor-Baah, the Association had also constructed a borehole for Simpa Health Center, stressing that, “l think we are gradually forming symbiotic relationship with the town. So in future if there is any such demand we can actually come and do what we are doing for better”.

The AMN Chief Metallurgist was optimistic that the PPE would help in keeping the staff and community safe as they go about their daily activities.

He expressed appreciation to members of the group for contributing generously to support the management and staff of Simpa Health Center.

Mr Samuel Larbi, Physician Assistant in charge of the health facility, who took delivery of the items thanked AMN for their kindness and pledged to use the PPE to protect themselves and patients to stem the viral disease.

He appealed to organizations and individuals to emulate “AMN’s big-heartedness” and help overcome the threat of the deadly virus. This is the second time the network has facilitated a social intervention programme to the Simpa Health Centre. The first was in 2018, when AMN facilitated a mechanized water supply system for the Simpa Community under the auspices of the Direct Assistance Programme of the Australian High Commission in Ghana.
