In 2022, the Ghana Minerals Commission will start Geology and Geotechnical Competency Examinations for personnel in mining, mining related and exploration companies. This was communicated to the industry in a letter signed by the Chief Inspector of Mines/Deputy CEO, Richard Kofi Adjei on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission.
According to the Commission, this has become necessary due to the important role Geologists and Geotechnical Engineers play in the mining industry. This will enable the Commission to regulate and ensure that competent geologists and geotechnical persons are appointed to appropriate statutory positions in the mining and exploration companies.
The Commission has prescribed two categories for starters.
